Hosting a cocktail party anytime soon? Looking for some snazzy, delicious mixology recipes that will impress your friends?
You can skip the fancy garnishes this summer and instead focus on a magic ingredient: CBD. Yes, that’s right, CBD can be incorporated into tons of cocktails and mixed drinks.
CBD and Alcohol
If you are already a CBD user, or just curious about it, you might be wondering how well CBD will mix with alcohol. Will it affect your buzz? Will it be safe?
Ultimately, we are not doctors, and we are not here to tell you what you should be doing with your body. What we can say is that evidence shows that people tend to notice that their experiences taking CBD and alcohol together were comparable to their experiences drinking without it. So, while some might feel a dose of CBD will amplify their night, others can add it to mixed drinks simply as an enjoyable way to ingest their CBD.
Just as CBD and alcohol on their own will have different effects among different people, using them together will lead to different outcomes as well. While your best friend might swear up and down that a CBD cocktail is the absolute best thing to unwind on a Friday night, you might not notice the effects of CBD while drinking.
Here are some of our favorite cocktails that mix well with CBD—of course, take discretion while drinking, listen to your doctor, and make adjustments to the recipe based on your own needs and preferences.
The CBD Margarita
Nothing says summer quite like a margarita. Here’s our favorite twist on a classic, from Goop:
- 1 ounce of mezcal
- 1 ounce of aquavit
- ¾ ounce of lime juice
- ¾ ounce of agave syrup
- 1 ounce of cannabis leaf juice or your favorite green juice like celery, arugula, kale
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 15 mg CBD tincture
- Cannabis leaf, edible flowers, or greens of choice to garnish
Instructions: simply add the ingredients in a shaker, shake and strain into a lowball glass with an ice cube, and add a garnish if you prefer.
Gin and Tonic
For those of us who are all about the simple life, you cannot get better than a gin and tonic. This recipe, also from Goop is perfect for a relaxed, low-maintenance after-work drink.
- 1 1/2 ounces of gin
- 3 1/2 ounces of tonic water
- ¼ ounce of lemon juice
- 15 mg of CBD oil
- Aromatics of choice such as marijuana leaves, lime wheel, grapefruit peel, edible flowers, herbs, and peppercorns
Instructions: Simply add the classic gin and tonic ingredients in a glass with ice, arrange the aromatics in an aesthetically pleasing fashion (if you so prefer) and float the CBD oil on top of the drink.
This refreshing, summery drink from The Manual is perfect for any die-hard whiskey fan.
- 2 ounces of Peach Tea whiskey
- 10–15 drops of CBD oil
- Fresh mint
- Fresh lemonade to top
Instructions: Combine mint and Peach Tea whiskey in a twelve-ounce glass and mix. Add CBD, fresh ice, and top it off with lemonade. Garnish with fresh mint.
This classic girls-night-out drink infused with CBD will be perfect for the Carrie Bradshaw in your life.
- 2 ounces of vodka
- 1 ounce of cranberry juice cocktail
- ¼ ounce of CBD syrup
- ¾ ounce of Triple Sec
- ¾ ounce of fresh lime juice
- Orange twist to garnish
Instructions: Mix the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add ice, and shake vigorously, strain into a martini glass, and garnish with the orange twist.
CBD Mint Julep
While many of the recipes on this list are perfect for a summer spent poolside or at the dock, this drink is one of our favorites in all seasons—and its minty fresh taste is perfect for a holiday cocktail party.
- 2 ½ ounces of bourbon
- ½ ounce of simple syrup
- 15 mg CBD tincture
- 2–8 mint leaves, with extra for garnish
Instructions: Mix together the mint leaves, CBD tincture and simple syrup in a chilled julep cup. Add bourbon and top with pebble ice. Swizzle and top with more ice, finishing with additional mint leaves as a garnish.
Cocktails do not all have to be fruity and fun or bitter and intense. They can also be delicious combinations of vanilla, cinnamon, honey and all our favorite baked goods regulars. What’s even better is that this recipe from Joy Organics can be made virgin, for those who want it as a powerful breakfast before a long day’s work, or swapped out with vegan milk for those of us who are dairy-free.
- 1 cup milk of your choice—soy, hemp, almond, or dairy all work great with this recipe!
- 1 milliliter plain CBD tincture
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons honey or agave
- Dash of nutmeg
- Cinnamon stick
- Shot of Bailey’s
Instructions: Pour milk, vanilla, sweetener and CBD oil into a saucepan over low heat. Whisk the mixture, and heat until warmed. Once cooked, add in a shot of Bailey’s, stir with a cinnamon stick, and finish with a light dusting of nutmeg.
CBD Cocktails While Out and About
Making the perfect CBD-infused cocktail is absolutely no problem if you have the right tools, the best ingredients, and a straightforward recipe to follow. You do not need to be a mixology expert to host your own cocktail parties, just a shaker, fresh ice, and some CBD oil.
However, if hosting an event is not really your style, CBD-infused cocktails are rising in popularity across America. After all, CBD is legal in all fifty states, as it does not contain any THC. Although staying at home with your friends is a fun and budget-friendly alternative to a night out, you might still be able to find CBD-infused cocktails in your favorite late-night frequents.
With CBD increasing in popularity every day and millions of people enjoying the benefits they offer, we expect that in coming years CBD-infused drinks will be typical fare on any pub menu.Disclosure: This blog may contain affiliate links.
