Oil pulling doesn’t have to hurt!

When I say “hurt”, I mean it doesn’t have to be painful in the dreadful way.

When I first heard of oil pulling, I did a lot of research before trying it because it honestly just sounded unpleasant. I didn’t like the idea of putting thick coconut oil in my mouth with essential oils.

I finally gave in and tried it after suffering tooth pain and mouth pain due to TMJ issues. I read up on how to do it and decided to try it myself so I went down my checklist of supplies.

Organic unrefined coconut oil, CHECK

Clove Essential Oil, CHECK

Peppermint Oil, CHECK

Oregano Oil, CHECK

Okay, so I was ready and I started small. I took a tablespoon of coconut oil and stared at it for a very long time. I was trying to figure out how not to gag instantly and spit it back out or accidentally swallow it.

The directions said to put it in your mouth and let it melt…the directions said to add 1-3 drops of clove and peppermint and/or oregano. I decided I would just start with clove, because it’s clove…I mean I love the flavor of clove so how bad can this be?

Well, picture this…a tablespoon of solid coconut oil…bring it up to your mouth, shove it in, hold it there…yeah like you’re a rebellious kid trying to hold in the smoke from the cigarette you’re hiding from mom!

I stood there, held it, waited for it to melt, then I tilted my head back and added clove oil. The clove oil immediately hit my tongue and immediately tasted all sorts of awful.

I started swishing…20 seconds, 60 seconds, 2 minutes…I seriously thought this was some sick joke the internet was playing on me to make my pain even worse!

I read the directions again…”Swish for 5-20 minutes.” 20 minutes!!?? You’ve got to be kidding me! I couldn’t possibly do this that long, but I’ll try.

So I swish…then it started happening. The same thing that happens when you’re brushing your teeth and the toothpaste foam grows and you have to spit. This was happening, it was like the oil was becoming “the blob” from the horror movies and it was growing everytime it hit flesh.

I started to wonder if I would die from oil drowning. Maybe I would be on the news.

“Sad news tonight. A woman, trying a natural remedy for oil pulling, drowns in coconut oil. The oil expanded all the way up to the ceiling. She is survived by her husband and three cats. All shaking their head at her ridiculousness.”

Yup, then I started to laugh.

First rule of oil pulling. DO NOT LAUGH while oil pulling.

Yeah, so I swallowed some oil. Not a lot, but enough to give me a good stomach ache.

I gave up and spit it out. Then read the directions and saw that I wasn’t supposed to swallow it or spit it into my sink.

I felt like a oil pulling failure.

A thing that seemed so simple, turned into a I Love Lucy episode, but I did not give up the fight! I tried again and again. I could never get to the entire 15 minutes…the oil felt thick and goopy and the essential oils were not very tasty.

After about a week, I gave up completely, but I kept reading about how amazing it is for so many oral issues as well as TMJ. I couldn’t take my TMJ pain, so I scoured the internet. I read so many articles, I was literally dreaming about coconut oil.

Then, as if the heavens opened up and sent me down singing angels, I found this.

This stuff has saved me! I am not even exaggerating…it is uh-maze-ing!

First of all, I discovered it by accident. I went to amazon.com and typed in “oil pulling”, this is the first thing that popped up. It had great ratings and I just bought it on a whim. I thought this would make life easier, so I thought I had nothing to lose, especially with Amazons amazing return policy.

I used it the first night and it was nothing like I expected. Simple directions. Swish for 30 seconds-20 minutes. 30 seconds!? That’s it? Well, to start, yes. 20 minutes is ideal, but I definitely can do it for 30 seconds and work my way to more time.

I put it in my mouth, a teaspoon, not much at all. It didn’t really taste like anything, but a slight cinnamon flavor. Not strong, not bitter, not sweet, but actually…pleasant.

It wasn’t thick or goopy or gag inducing! It didn’t multiply in my mouth either!

This was actually…do I dare to say…easy!

So I have been doing it for about 2 weeks, on and off. Now I won’t get the best results doing it on and off, but I kept forgetting because it was in my medicine cabinet so I keep on the counter now next to my toothbrush. I’ve been doing it at night and I kid you not, my pain and tension is less in the mornings.

I can’t believe how amazing this stuff is!

Amazon and the company website cost the same, $14.99 and the website has more flavors, plus an entire line of amazing oral products including a toothpaste you can customize! I am very excited to do this very soon.

Please try this! 30 seconds is easy and it is not unpleasant at all.
